Crusoe socks - anyone?

Niki on Apr 29th 2006

Has anyone actually made the Crusoe socks from Knitty?  I’m nearly to where I think the toe decreases should begin, but the pattern says:
“Continue working in rounds until foot from back of heel measures 9 inches.”
Then it has you decrease 4 stitches every other round until you’re at 22(24) -from an original 44(48), then 4 [...]

It’s a baby bird-fest!

Niki on Apr 29th 2006

We have not one but 2 new families of baby birds at the Knitnik house!  The first is a trio of baby robins, freshly hatched in the last 2 days, in our bedroom window.  These robins seem early to me, as the last ones were in late July last year, though they were much bigger [...]

Stranding in the dark

Niki on Apr 27th 2006

Yep, the verdict is in.  I love them.  The colors in this pic are not at all true, but you’ll get the general idea.  It fits pretty well too, so I guess we have socks.  I have yet to decide what to do with the heel, but we’re not quite there yet.  I’m off to [...]

I give up

Niki on Apr 26th 2006

The Straight-Laced socks are out the window for now.  I keep getting the same striping as I got on the last LL, and these colors are just too elegant for a silly little diagonal stripe.  I’ve tried 1’s, 2’s, and 3’s, with nearly the same results (thanks Tricia for reminding me that if I figure [...]

4 attempts and counting

Niki on Apr 23rd 2006

OK, I have cast on the Straight-laced socks 4 times now, and ripped them out 3 times. First with 60 stitches on size 2’s (they call for 60 on 3’s, but there’s no way this LL would look any good on needles that big), then with 68 on 1’s (too small), with 72 on [...]

More progress than anticipated, but not much

Niki on Apr 23rd 2006

So I decided not to rip out the vest, I’m going to do the i-cord edging (which is taking forever), and I think it will be okay.  If not, I’ll rip, and cry a bit, and do it all over.

In between bouts of i-cord, which I have to do sporadically because it’s so tight, I [...]

Are you tired of my feet yet?

Niki on Apr 22nd 2006

As I look back over my site, I realize how many pictures of my feet there are (at least they’re attractive feet!).  Of course, with as much sock yarn as I now have, you’ll be seeing lots of them for a very long time.  I finished up the LL Happy Valley socks last night, all [...]

How happy is your valley?

Niki on Apr 17th 2006

Mine is pretty good, thanks.  I’m on day 5 of being off of work (back tomorrow), and have accomplished boatloads of stuff around the house, and lots of knitting too!  I just finished updating my gallery with pictures of many of the items (OK, mostly socks) I’ve blogged about, and many I’ve just skipped over.  [...]

2 socks completed in 1 day?

Niki on Apr 9th 2006

OK, that’s a little misleading.  I did finish 2 socks today, but neither of them were started today.  These 2 were the main things standing between me and all of my new Lorna’s Laces sock yarn.  Until now, I have not even allowed myself to wind it, because I knew if I did, these socks [...]

The cutest sock yarn ever, or TCSYE for short

Niki on Apr 5th 2006

Ever since I emailed Tricia a picture of this yarn, and called it “the cutest sock yarn ever”, we have referred to it only by that name.  She got hers first (it was nowhere to be found in NC), and finished her socks before we even got to California.  The funny thing is, after seeing [...]
