Downfall at the Dollar Tree - almost

I got a call at Knit Night the other night from my youngest - “Mommy, is there anywhere you can stop on your way home to buy me tall socks?” - for volleyball camp.  I, being the sympathetic, kind mom that I am, said, “no.”  In her defense, she did not whine or complain, just said “OK” and hung up.  OK, that’s a big step for us!  On the way out of the library where we meet, I saw a Dollar Tree across the way, and thought it was worth a shot, maybe they had “tall socks”.  I went in and went straight to the sock aisle, and there was one package of boys high crew socks - 3 pair for $1.  What can you say, I love my kids, right?  3 pair for $1 for them (I actually bought cute ankle socks for both of them - 2 for $1!), and $16-20 for 1 pair for me, plus hours and hours of labor.  Well, they had their hours of labor when I gave birth to them, and for the last 15 and 10 years.  ‘Nuff said.  Anyway, since the lovely Dollar Tree won’t take your debit card unless you spend $10, I had to find some more stuff.  Not hard for me, because my motto is, “I’ll buy anything if it’s just a dollar!”  Really, people like me are why there are stores like this.  Cute Christmas plates?  Sure, I’ll spend a buck on those!  Heath bar Fiddle-Faddle - I wouldn’t pay $3 to try it, but for a buck, why not (BTW - it’s really yummy!)?  So I’m wandering around the store with my arms half-full of stuff, trying to get to $10, when I stumble on an endcap FULL of Bernat and Patons yarn.  Voodoo, BlingBling, and a few others.  None in great colors, but I stood there for a whole minute wondering what I could make out of it.  Surely someone needed something out of this $1 yarn.  Then it struck me - I can’t buy any yarn!  I quickly walked away without a second thought.  But - I nearly fell off the wagon, and it would have been all Dollar Tree’s (and Hayley’s) fault!  Oh - and the grand total was $11.62, for 3 bags ‘o stuff.  Gotta love the Dollar Tree.
