No more socks for awhile…

I’ve promised Mark I won’t start any new projects before I start his sweater vest. This does not mean, however, that his sweater has moved to the top of the list. There are still other things I have to finish. Like Holly’s bag. The magazine is so you can see which bag this is, since googling for a picture of it yielded no responses, nor did an email to the Knitlist (over 10,000 members) actually get me anyone who has actually ever made this bag. The pattern is a bit wacky, though I’m starting to understand it, it just seems like they’re making it a lot harder than it is. Oh, and get this – the dots are crocheted. I’m going to have to bite the bullet. Or get Cindy or Susan to help.
I finally finished the Lombard Street socks, and they’re absolutely gorgeous!
These were done in Hand Jive Nature’s Palette. I absolutely love this yarn – it’s so soft, and the subtle variegations are gorgeous. Also, though the toe is still oversized, I can carefully pull a sock over it and be a foot model. The remaining purple of the toe is nicely camouflaged by the purple of the socks.
Still on the needles – ArtFibers sweater for me, Lotus Blossom tank, and Lace Wing socks, all of which have been ignored for a while. Since my patience is short, I’ll probably bounce from project to project for a while. I contemplated doing some sisal string soap sacks (say that 3 times fast) for quick Christmas gifts, but decided that it’s just too close to Christmas to even start. Besides, that stuff hurts my hands!
The big news of the week is that Shea got her driver’s license yesterday. We’re still looking for a car for her, so if you have one you’d like to donate, let me know! She’s a very good driver, and the only thing she’s hit so far was a squirrel (but he was asking for it!). I did have a bit of a scare, though, on the way home from school. She was coming over a hill, and the truck in front of us was stopping quickly. She had her foot on the brake, but not quite hard enough. She suddenly noticed, and stopped quickly, and hit nothing. But what had distracted her? The automatic headlights had come on. “Look – something shiny!” Yikes.
So what else has been going on at our house? A little here, a little there, a little slate. Last year right about this time, my mom gave us carpet for Christmas. We decided while we were doing the floors, we would tile the entryway in multicolored slate. We also decided it would be cool to tile the front porch in big slate, which has been sitting in my garage for about a year. Call it the Goldilocks porch – it’s too cold, it’s too hot, it’s too wet to tile – or we’re just too tired and lazy! Daddy came over and got it started – I’m hoping to get more done this weekend, if it can stay warm enough. It is going to be so pretty! Oh – and in case you didn’t guess, that’s my dad.![]()
