Cough cough hack hack…

Sorry – hope I didn’t get anything on you.
If you believe everything you read on the internet (and God help you if you actually do), there are less than two hundred viruses that cause colds, and you can only get each of them once in a lifetime. Also, adults supposedly average somewhere between 2 and 7 colds per year, depending on which source you read. And they typically last 3 to 5 days. So would someone please explain to me why, other than about a 3 week period during which I was mostly symptom-free, I have had a “cold” and been coughing up a lung since September? Truly – I can pinpoint the day I started to cough (we were helping friends move), and it’s back, with a vengeance. I have had tests for strep and whooping cough, 2 sets of chest x-rays, and a few breathing tests, all in the past 3 months, and nothing turned up positive. 3 or 4 doctor visits (I lost count), 2 trips to the x-ray clinic, 3 sets of antibiotics, 2 different cough medicines with varying levels of things to knock me out, lots of money, lots of phlegm, and it’s back. I think I am just determined this year to catch every cold I’ve never had. I’ve lost my voice this week as well – always fun. Makes it hard to yell at the kids – and they certainly don’t take me seriously when they can barely hear me.
So other than feeling mostly like lying in bed for the last few months, things have been good. Now if I can just find a way to convince the people that I work for that they should just continue to pay me for staying in bed, and I would be golden! Since I am immunosuppressed (medication-induced) and work in a school, I should just come to expect that I will be sick all the time, but I am a bit tired of it, I’ll admit. And the kids do NOT get out of the way in the hallway when you whisper “excuse me.” I’ve tried.
OK, if you’ve gotten this far and not been grossed out or just gotten tired of my whining and left, here’s some knitting content to keep you going. 2007 is my year for knitting socks to give away, and I have thus far finished 3 pair of socks this month, 2 to give away (hey – I still need socks too, don’t I?). Since I counted the sock stash a few weeks ago, and I have enough sock yarn to knit a pair every week of this year and not have to buy any yarn at all, I thought maybe I should focus on socks this year. Not that I don’t usually focus on them. I’m just going to focus on them more intently, if that’s possible. So – here are the completed ones thus far:

Yarn by Mama E in English Roses. Pattern is Lava Flow by SockBug. Knitted on size 1.

Yarn is Dang it I forgot to look it up, but I got it from Cindy. Thanks Cindy! Sorry. Pattern is my own toe-up footie made in some weird mixed up way that will fit my child’s size 6 AAAA foot. Knitted on size 1.

These socks will be mailed this week to someone deserving who doesn’t know they’re coming (and I hope she likes them!). Yarn is Koigu KPPPM. Pattern is the Harlot’s basic sock with a few tweaks (including a kick-butt Eye of Partridge heel) by me.
I’m currently working on another giveaway pair in some Elann Sock It To Me Puzzle, also given to me by Cindy (yarn sharing is just one of the many reasons we love Cindy). If I can manage to finish them by Wednesday (doubtful), I’ll actually have completed 4 pairs in a month. My goal this year is 3 in a month, if I can do it without risking insanity, but 4 would be so cool!
