Just the two of us… and a vast right-wing conspiracy

So we got up at 4 a.m. yesterday to put the girls on a plane to Grandma’s for Spring Break (hi Mom – hope you guys are having fun!). Really, 4 a.m. And for me, not a morning person doesn’t even begin to describe it. I drove back home and went back to bed for a few hours, so I could be human for the remainder of the day. It didn’t really work. Kim and I went shopping for an outfit to do double duty – formal night for the cruise (just 26 days away!) and my sister’s wedding (yes, Brenna, just 88 days and counting). We found a cute long skirt and short sleeved sweater that should fit for both, now I just need shoes. Tricia – let me know if this is “formal” enough.
We had both of Kim’s girls (2 and almost 4) shopping with us (I don’t recommend this for the faint of heart) and by the time we got home, we were flat worn out. OK, I know, giving the girls ice cream in the middle of the shopping trip may not have been the best of plans, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Plus, I had been promised that if I was a “good girl” while we shopped (shopping for clothes for me is not my idea of fun) that I could have ice cream.
Anyway, we came home tired, called for pizza for dinner (cheaper when the girls aren’t here!) and I commenced to knit for a while (I can see the surprise in your eyes!). I finished off the toe of a Lorna’s Laces sock, then was apparently distracted, and put my needles down somewhere. Not sure where. 2 of my good size 2 Addis. I spent probably 45 minutes in different spurts running around the house, flipping over furniture, trying to find them. They are absolutely nowhere to be found. I’ve looked everywhere at least 3 times. My other size 2 Addis are on the remaining Uptown Boot sock, and have been for days, so it’s not them. My size 2 Knitpicks, well, they just don’t quite give the same look that the Addis do with this yarn. I tried, it was bad, I ripped. I went to bed thinking I was crazy, but thought that maybe somehow in the middle of the night I would wake up and know where they were. No luck. This morning I did a quick search, and still didn’t find them. After showering, I looked for my brown pants. Everywhere. No brown pants in the closet, the drawer, or in the laundry I washed last night. Certain I was losing my mind, I checked all those places again. This was beginning to have a familiar feeling. I finally checked the laundry hamper – certainly I’d washed them last night as planned. Nope – there they were. Dirty. At least they were here and not a figment of my imagination (as I’m sure Mark thinks the size 2 needles are). It’s a conspiracy. I’m sure of it. I’m not sure who’s behind it – the Addi people, the KnitPicks people, or perhaps my family – all in an effort to make me think I’m insane. And it’s working.
So today is packing day – we’re running away for a few days since we’re temporarily childless. The clothes are an afterthought – what yarn to pack comes first. Must break out the winder and swift. Oh, and get a new watch battery, as I can’t survive without a watch. Oh – another funny story – last year we bought a clock that “self-sets” for Daylight Savings time. Last fall I didn’t realize it did this, and when I set back the other clocks, I set it back too. Then in the middle of the night it set itself back again. Needless to say we missed church that day, due to my stupidity. This year with the new DST dates, I realized I would have to set it ahead myself. No problem. However I forgot about the “actual” date, since nobody was talking about it. Sunday morning I woke up to what the clock said was 7:11 a.m. It was pitch black outside. I thought it strange, but went back to sleep until a “reasonable” time of 9:45. Then got up, walked into the dining room and saw the clock – 8:45. Huh? My internal clock has just not been right since, hence the need for a watch battery.
I finished some socks – a pair to replace the Jojoland ones I made for OtherMom, which she wore out in a month. She picked a nice cotton blend, and they knitted up really quickly. I also have finished one Uptown Boot sock, one Lorna’s Laces ribbed sock, and one Monkey sock, and finished up a pair in Trekking for our friend MINIAnnie from the MINI club.
I’ve got some Sweet Georgia I picked up at KnitPicky the other day that I’m dying to dig into, and I think I will this week!
I’m a little late (as always) for Flash Your Stash 2007, but I thought I’d go ahead and do it. If you’re my family or someone else who will judge me for the size and content of my stash, please go away now! Since sock yarn doesn’t “technically” count as stash, I shot it separately. Here’s the OTSYS (Other Than Sock Yarn Stash):
See? Not bad at all. Kinda wimpy, if the truth be known. OK, so I wrangled together all the sock yarn (not an easy job, as it is NOT well-behaved, and tends to multiply when I’m not looking), and here goes:
Oops – missed some!
It’s obvious that I care far more about my sock yarn stash than the rest of that stuff. Not that it’s not good stuff, I just like the sock yarn better. Back at the beginning of this year, I had 52 pairs worth of sock yarn. I’m now up to 57 – that’s after knitting 8 complete pairs of socks, starting 3 more, dyeing some of my own, buying some, and receiving some from a friend. Oh, and demoting the Jojoland (3 pairs worth) from sock yarn stash to just regular stash. It’s gorgeous stuff, but just not worthy of socks.
OK, I’m off to pack yarn and other necessary things for a long drive. Which will include trips to 4 yarn stores. Really.
