I Got Six

And yes, to my children, that is grammatically incorrect, but I invite you to visit here and travel back to my childhood with me and sing along!  And if only socks could knit up as quickly as the numbers add up in the song.

I started (to think about) writing a post a little over a week ago.  It was going to be brought to you by the letter C and the number 2.  C was for chaos, confusion, crazy, and convoluted, and 2 was for the number of socks in one pair that I seem unable to finish.  I got as far as the title and the pictures.

Do we see a pattern forming here?  This depressed me so much that I have dedicated the last week and a half to finishing up all of the second socks that are on the needles.  I have finished up all but one of them, plus started and finished a few other pairs as well.  Here’s what it looks like now:

Socks for me – Lang Jawoll yarn – pattern Uptown Boot Socks from Interweave’s Favorite Socks book

Six pairs finished!  Woo hoo!  The only ones from that earlier picture that aren’t done yet are the Lorna’s Laces ones to match my (unfinished) sweater.  I put them aside to work on some cruise yarn.  Mom won a gorgeous skein of STR in Tanzanite.  I thought about fighting her for it, but decided to give in when I won my own skein of STR in Footzey Foo.  I happened to have a few patterns with me on the trip, and Mom chose the Walking Away Socks from Fiber Trends.  I finished up #1 this morning, and cast on #2 this afternoon.  These shall henceforth be referred to as the Mullet socks.  Why, you ask?

These are a great, fast knit, and I need to finish them up before we head for Minnesota for the 4th of July.  Shouldn’t be a problem, as I started Wednesday night and finished all but the grafting on Friday night.

Looking back at my last post – we did accomplish everything on the Memorial Day “to-do” list – Hayley’s shoes are ordered, bracelet is fixed, groceries were bought (and need to be bought again), my neti pot finally arrived and I love it, Mark got pants and started his new job (and loves it), and bills were paid.  Aren’t you impressed?  And bored, I’m sure.

In other news, Holly is coming back to live with us in the fall, for all of next school year!  We’re very excited, but this means that we will spend our summer converting our sunroom to a bedroom.  This room has only storm windows, and no heat or AC, so this will be a serious undertaking.  Before we can do anything, though, we need to clean out 12 years’ worth of detritus.  If you were with me last summer, you’ll remember this.  We spent 2 solid days (probably 15 hours) cleaning out our playroom and getting rid of the junk.  We did a great job, and we’ve done a fairly good job of keeping it straight for the last year.  Now we need to completely empty it.  Um, problem!  Other than a hard-to-get-to attic space, this is our ONLY storage.  We have to find a place in the other 1700 square feet of the house to store all of this stuff while we re-do the room.  We worked on it for about 3 hours today, moving out, throwing away, moving indestructable stuff to the cellar, hauling to Goodwill.  We probably cleaned out 1/4 of the stuff in there.  Eventually there will be a large storage closet in that room, but in the meantime we may be tripping over stuff for the summer!

In other other news, both the Queen and Alison got to go see the Harlot in California yesterday.  I’m absolutely green with envy.  Hopefully one of these days she’ll hit the Southeast!

I guess I should go think about fixing some dinner for the hungry natives.
